This space exists for weary Christians who have been told that the Christian life is sustained by trying harder, doing more, or finally getting serious enough for God to be pleased with them. It is not.
Christian faith begins, continues, and ends with the finished work of Jesus Christ for sinners, and everything written here is an attempt to keep the center of gravity exactly there.
I am a pastor in a confessional Baptist church, shaped by covenant theology, the Reformation’s law and gospel distinction, and a redemptive-historical reading of Scripture that insists Christ is not merely the example, the helper, or the motivator of the Christian life, but its substance, its source, and its sure end.
I believe the gospel is not a one-time message that gets us into the Christian life, but the slow, steady word God uses to sustain faith over the long haul, especially when obedience feels heavy, assurance feels thin, and joy feels far away.
Much of what you will find here presses against shallow moralism, triumphal Christianity, theological shortcuts, and any spirituality that quietly shifts confidence away from Christ’s work and back onto ours.
I write for Christians who love theology but are tired of being crushed by it, who have been taught good doctrines but not always given good news, and who need to hear again that Christ has already done for them what they could never do for themselves.
You will find reflections on Scripture, worship, preaching, exile and homecoming, assurance, perseverance, and the ordinary means God has promised to use to keep His people. You will also find pastoral letters, essays, and meditations aimed less at winning arguments and more at binding up bruised reeds and strengthening weak knees with the promise that Jesus Christ is enough, and that He really is for you.
If you are looking for hot takes, spiritual hacks, or techniques for self-improvement, this will probably disappoint you. If you are looking for the long gospel, the kind that carries sinners all the way home, you are in the right place.
Grace and peace.
